A Cowboy's Life: I Feel The Need, The Need For Speed

I Feel The Need, The Need For Speed

hands on learning
My little guy likes all things mechanical, especially trains, construction trucks and of course planes. So we recently took him to the Fort Worth Aviation Museum, so he could get a closer look at some of his favorite military planes. This museum has twenty-one aircraft's dating from 1943-present scattered throughout the property.

The best part of this museum, is that there is a simulator that visitors can sit in and feel what it's like to fly a real plane. Carson spent an entire hour doing this! I had to bribe him with m&m's to get him out so we could go outside to check out all the planes. There are certain days throughout the year that they open all the canopies on the planes for visitors to climb up and sit in. But this particular day was cold and windy, so we were only able to get in a helicopter. No, not some wimpy one. We are talking about a massive aircraft that flew in Vietnam and can hold about 60 people and vehicles.

The staff was so friendly and encouraged visitors (especially children) to touch every gadget. Carson loved the experience of hands on learning with an actual plane. Although, he was a little upset that they would not let fly. Maybe next time...We are planning on going back in the spring so we can spend more time outside and enjoy a picnic on the grounds.

What it is your favorite place for kids to get hands on learning?

  1. This is definitely something my son would love as well! How great that Carson was able to be so hands on with the planes and do the flight simulator. We have a hands on children's learning museum in the next town over that my son has a blast at!
