A Cowboy's Life: How I Met My Husband

How I Met My Husband

7:23:00 AM

I would have never imagined that the big brother of my childhood friend Sara would one day become my husband. I remember many of slumber parties at their house that ultimately ended up with my future father in-law driving me home at midnight because I couldn't make it through the night. I just don't like staying at other people's homes!

Funny thing is, that of all the years I have known Sara, I only have one memory of Chad. We were getting ready for lunch and he was showing his mother a drawing he was working on. So me and my crimped hair walked over to ask what the drawing was and he looked down at me and rudely said, "Ugh, you won't understand!" He of course was a mature middle schooler and I was simply a child:)

Fast forward about 15 years to when I was about to enter into my last year of college and this hunk just moved back from Las Vegas where he had gone to school. After seeing him a few times at church, I finally got up the nerves to talk to him. I was about to head to Vegas for my 21st birthday so I had a great excuse to strike up a conversation about what to do on my trip.

First Christmas when dating, trip to Vegas to meet his college buddies & wedding day

But to my dismay I didn't see him for about another two months because he was always away on business trips. So when he finally returned to church he asked about my trip and what I was majoring in. Photography I said. Being the graphic designer and artist that he is, he immediately says "cool, I would love to check out your portfolio." That would be awesome...except I had just switched my major and yet to take a photography course!

He asked me out the next week and on our first date I had to confess there was no portfolio. We got a good laugh and to this day he still says he's waiting to see my portfolio. From that first date on we were inseparable. Two years later we headed to Vegas to get hitched...but not by Elvis. We had a lovely ceremony at the Mandalay Bay in front of all our family and friends.

And that my friends is how I met my husband!
