A Cowboy's Life: Follow Your Dreams

Follow Your Dreams

9:56:00 AM

Since we welcomed our son into the world a little over 4 years ago I knew that I had to make a change. Leaving him after 8 weeks of maternity leave was miserable. I cried, wished and prayed that I could be a stay at home mom with him. But it wasn’t an option – we need my paycheck. Plus, my husband works from home, so he was always there and then both my mom and mother in law watched him. (And by watching, I mean spoiling him rotten!)

It never got easier leaving him, but I adjusted to the fact that this is the way life goes. Every time I would get a little weepy or upset about not being home more, my husband would make the suggestion that I get my teacher certification.

After years of ignoring his suggestions, a light when off in my head and finally realized that it actually was a good idea! The next week I had started my certification training. I started the process in June and had signed my teacher contract in August. Talk about a whirlwind change in career paths

It’s amazing what taking a leap of faith and stepping out of your comfort zone will do. I never gave up on having a dream to be with my son more, and with continued prayer, the Lord provided for me. It wasn’t the solution I originally wanted or asked for, but in return He gave me something more.

Have you stepped out of your norm to follow your dreams? I encourage you to make them happen – it’s never too late!

  10. I was working at home in 2009 when I suddenly lost my job right after getting married. We already had two kids, so in a new marriage, we were already faced with whether or not I should get a job. We took a leap of faith for me to just be a stay at home mom. Since then, I work on the side blogging, but we mostly go on just my husband's income. :)
