Kids these days are smart – seriously smart! Especially when it comes to technology and cell phones. My four year old son can navigate my phone and play apps that I can’t even figure out. That’s why I started to incorporate more educational apps into his daily preschool schedule.
We do a couple of hours of preschool at home each day and I let him use the phone when he starts getting bored with the regular daily activities. I recently purchased the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime Phone for $79.92 (Rollback from $99.92) to go along with the New Walmart Family Mobile PLUS = Unlimited Talk, Text & Data. It includes up to 10 GB of 4G LTE and a free movie on VUDU ($7 value) every month, for just $49.88 per line. (Will also need a $25 starter kit for first time customers.) I chose this phone because of the large touch screen – perfect for little fingers to navigate and the high quality, 5MP camera.
After my little guy practices his writing and corresponding craft, we hop onto the phone to play a few apps while I set up the next activity. His favorite learning apps right now are the following:
  • PBS Parents Play and Learn – Interactive games and activities to build math and literacy skills.
  • ABC Alphabet Phonics – Teaches kids to learn the ABC’s.
  • Bridge Builder Simulator – Fun game for those who like engineering and building
  • USA Map Puzzle-Map the States – Great way to learn the states and where they are located.
My favorite perk of the new Walmart Family Mobile PLUS is the unlimited data. I don’t have to worry about the amount of data I am using each time we play a game or worry that I will have to pay a fee for going over on data usage. Plus, getting a free movie each month from VUDU that we watch in bed on our tablet is nice. I am all about saving money!

Do your kids take over your phone? What do they like to play?

  2. I wish there were more apps when my kids were younger. Although it does get them a little too used to looking at a screen all the time.

  10. I have some apps on our iPad that are educational but I never use them. I prefer books. Tech is important, but so are book books.
